Santa Lucia.

Today is Lucia dag in Sweden. It is the day were you eat Lussekatter and celebrate the darkest day of the year with a lot of lights and Lucia carols. Så mysigt!

  1. In fact it was the shortest day of the year before. Now it is the 21th of December, when it's winter Solstice. But before when the Julian Calender was the one in use the 13th of December was the shortest day of the year. Therefore it makes sence the way we celebrate Lucia day in Scandinavia. To bring back the light after the longest and darkest night of the year.

  2. I remember participating in this holiday when we lived in Sweden, I was 10. It was so magical, I wore a white cotton gown, silver tinsel around my waist and head and got to carry a lit candle. We had a processional all through the tiny 100 pupil school and finished with hot chocolate and lussekatter in the little cafeteria. I remember walking to school in the pitch dark!! I still sing the songs. It was so magical.
